Process
Brew Day
- Design or select a batch recipe
- Calculate water volumes & temperatures for Mash and Sparge
- Measure & Heat Strike Water
- Measure & Mill Grains
- Add water and grains to Mash Tun
- Stir; Establish Temperature; Seal & start 60 minute timer
- Measure Hops
- Measure & Heat Sparge Water
- End the Mash
- Vorlauft - pull 1-2 quarts of the wort into pitcher & sprinkle back on top
- Lauter first runnings
- Perform a single or double batch sparge; stir
- Vorlauft
- Light burner
- Lauter second runnings
- Bring to a boil
- Add hops & additions per recipe
- Flameout
- Chill wort
- Add whirlpool hops if necessary at 170-180F
- Rack to primary carboy
- Aerate
- Take Original Gravity (OG) reading
- Pitch Yeast
- Keep in prescribed temperature for fermentation
Bottling Day
- Take Final Gravity (FG) to ensure fermentation is complete
- Bring 16oz of water to a boil
- Add calculated amount of sugar; stir
- Boil 15 minutes
- Remove from heat & cool
- Rack beer from carboy to sanitized bottling bucket with sugar solution
- Use bottling wand on bucket spigot to fill sanitized bottles
- Cap
- Add cap stickers and bottle labels
- Leave bottles at room temperature for 14-21 days to carbonate
- Chill & Enjoy!
